Overview

While Costa Rica is renowned for its beaches and jungle-covered mountains, the Caño Negro wetlands—often called the “Amazon of Costa Rica”—is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. The wetlands are an important place for migratory birds passing between North and South America. With over 400 species recorded the reserve is recognised as one of the best locations for bird-watching in Central America. Other types of animals such as monkeys and caimans are also commonly seen in this wildlife paradise.

You will enjoy a tranquil boat journey down the Rio Frio where you can observe the wildlife and wetlands in comfort. Afterwards, you will step foot onto land and visit a small community where you will learn about traditional agricultural practices and taste locally made sugarcane juice and chocolate.

Lunch is included at the Caiman Restaurant and air-conditioned transport from La Fortuna is provided.
